HMG Pioneers Local Paint Delivery Service In Manchester
Flourishing independent UK paint manufacturer, HMG Paints is trailblazing a streamlined new local supply service in its home city of Manchester. Marketed under the HMG Select brand and equipped with distinctive black-liveried delivery vans, the no-nonsense service will offer next-day delivery and bespoke colour matching on smaller quantities of a popular range of coatings, primers and thinners, within a catchment area roughly bordered by the M60. It is targeting small and medium sized commercial paint users like engineering companies, furniture makers, automotive bodyshops, machine shops, local council maintenance departments and trade counters, of which there are hundreds in the city.
Operating from its manufacturing base in Collyhurst, HMG Paints is a leading surface coatings supplier to diverse market sectors across the UK and, through its overseas subsidiaries and associates, enjoys an international reputation for product innovation, performance and quality. Its British-made paints are extensively used on cars and commercial vehicles, superyachts and power boats, rocket ships, hot air balloons, buildings and bridges, TV cabinets and furniture, models, artefacts and a whole host of applications, whilst the company itself maintains impressive environmental credentials.
The decision to launch HMG Select centres on a strategy of offering the resources of a big paint manufacturer to smaller enterprises, in a simplified, jargon-free manner. Once the Manchester pilot is proven, the company intends to extend the scheme nationwide, possibly on a franchise basis, planning upwards of thirty branches.
“We are offering a local, no-nonsense service to local customers, which provides more paint know-how and less technical complexity,” says HMG Paints MD, John Falder. “Coupled with our 24 hour delivery promise and colour matching skills, it will enable customers to get the job done quicker and done properly.”
The company’s working partners involved in the pioneering HMG Select operation in Manchester are Steve Williams of Bury, Steven Hutton of Chadderton, Neil Dawes of Whitefield and Jamie Bradbury from Clifton near Salford, all of whom have head office experience and are equipped to give sound advice on paint selection and application. They are based at the new HMG Select trade counter in Collyhurst Road, where customers also have the choice of a while-you-wait immediate collection service, with coffee and biscuits available for visitors and the option of payment by cash/credit card or opening an account.
Customers located in and around the M60 perimeter are assured of delivery by 3pm the next day, on quantities from ½ litre to around 25 litres across the complete HMG Select range. Most paints are offered in an unrestricted colour choice, giving the freedom to select from the usual colour standards, paintmakers’ charts and over 50,000 additional shades available through the renowned HMG colour library, including metallics and fluorescents.
Published in a glossy product selector, the HMG Select range covers a wide variety of industrial, transport, furniture and high performance architectural finishes, including enamels, cellulose paints, 2-pack acrylics, pre-cat and acid catalysed wood finishes, marine and water-borne coatings. Clear guidance is provided on product suitability for different jobs and ease of application, although HMG Select is able to offer user training, sometimes free, for applying more unusual finishes. There are also matched standard, slow and fast acting thinners, plus a comprehensive primer selector for many common substrates, from aluminium and rusty steel, to concrete floors and marine hardwood.
The HMG Select hotline is (0161) 205 9991 and the Manchester operation is now open for business.

There is nothing quite like teak decking for natural beauty, life expectancy and anti-slip properties. This exotic wood graces many a treasured boat and it’s said you can tell a lot about an owner by the way he maintains his teak. Some opt for the natural untreated look, with its white bleached-out appearance, some prefer regular applications of teak oil, while others favour the silken sheen of yacht varnish.
