Microporous Propodec Enhances Natural Beauty Of Teak Decking
There is nothing quite like teak decking for natural beauty, life expectancy and anti-slip properties. This exotic wood graces many a treasured boat and it's said you can tell a lot about an owner by the way he maintains his teak.
Some opt for the natural untreated look, with its white bleached-out appearance, some prefer regular applications of teak oil, while others favour the silken sheen of yacht varnish. Now marine coatings specialist, HMG Paints of Manchester offers an alternative in the shape of its Propodec Teak & Wood Finish, a protective, microporous alkyd coating suitable for all hardwoods and softwoods, which is long lasting and less effort to apply than oil or varnish.
Developed to enhance and preserve the natural beauty of wood, it has been proven in the hot Florida sun and the driving British rain, so is suitable for all marine environments. Propodec is designed to be applied directly onto uncoated teak or other timber, with no pre-treatment or primer required or desired. Its special blend of solvents allows deep penetration of the coating into the grain, enhancing the organic properties of wood and retaining the essential non-slip properties of teak decking.
Offered in clear and a range of translucent wood stain colours, it gives a natural texture and finish that many boat owners favour, rather than a varnished sheen. Being microporous, Propodec allows moisture vapour to escape from the wood, resisting the flaking, peeling and cracking which can occur with traditional coatings that can't breathe. It also provides outstanding protection against water absorption, dry rot, mildew and other invasive organisms, far outlasting normal teak oils.
Application is straightforward, with the first coat of Propodec thinned with white spirit, to facilitate even brushing and aid penetration, and the next coats applied unthinned, straight from the can. Subsequent maintenance coats are painted straight over the existing finish, after simple cleaning down. For pre-varnished teak, the old coating should be removed, to ensure the full microporous effect is retained.
