British Coatings Federation

British Coatings Federation

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) is the sole trade association for the decorative, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks and wall coverings manufacturing industry in the UK. It represents a total market in the UK of £2.2 Billion. The BCF represents 130 companies, which produce about 90% of the UK output of coatings, printing inks and wall coverings. The Federation provides training initiatives, programmes and qualifications for the surface coatings industry; lobbies UK, European and International authorities for the benefit of members; develops industry-focussed guidance; agrees industry priorities; and encourages industry best practice.

HMG Managing Director John Falder is President of the British Coatings Federation and Chairman of the Vehicle Refinish Group and the Industrial Coatings Council of the BCF (British Coatings Federation).

As the UK’s largest trade and employers’ Association in the painting and decorating industry, the PDA has members across the length and breadth of the country. Coatings Care® is the preeminent environmental health and safety management program for coatings manufacturers around the world, and is being actively implemented by paint, printing ink, and adhesives companies in over 11 countries. These companies are making effective use of the programs many resource materials, all of which are aimed at providing business value while enhancing health, safety and environmental performance.

HMG Paints are the only site to have won the award twice, picking up the award in 2015 after our previous win in 2000.

At the 2021 Family Business of the Year Awards, amongst the myriad of family businesses from across the UK and Ireland, HMG were the humble recipients of the ‘Essence of Family Business’ Award. The award is open to businesses with a turnover between £10 - £25m Trading for more than 3 years with a HQ based within the MEN circulation area. This year’s awards saw a record turnout of entries and the rigorous judging commenced in May 2019. HMG Paints were then shortlisted amongst two other neighbouring Manchester-based firms, Godel Technologies and Utilities Design and Planning, HMG came out on top after impressing the judges with the company’s engagement within the region and commitment to the community of Manchester, as well as progressing achievements in innovation.
