Supporters of Rainhill’s railway heritage have been out in force recently to celebrate the unveiling of the freshly painted MK1 carriage at Rainhill Library.

The work, undertaken by Northern Rail engineering staff and its contractors, WG Specialist Coatings and HMG Paints, completes the renovation of the MK1 carriage.

Inside the restored vehicle is a history of the Rainhill trials and the illustrious Liverpool & Manchester Railway and as the vehicle is now attached to the library, visitors there can browse the exhibition of historical prints.

Craig Harrop, Client and Stakeholder Manager for Northern Rail comments: “Northern is delighted to have been able to work with the Rainhill community and industry partners to celebrate its railway heritage and the successful restoration of this historical carriage."

Rainhill Library is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm, closed on Wednesday and open 10am to 1pm on Saturday.
